Candidates for Superior Court Judge in Chatham County

Tracy O’Connell, Attorney, and Lisa Colbert, Juvenile Court Judge, presented to the Skidaway Hamiltons and their guests in a well-attended meeting on January 21, 2020. Both candidates introduced themselves and talked about their backgrounds.

Ms. O’Connell then spoke about the court system of Georgia, the courts within Chatham County, and the Superior Court. She explained what the Superior Court’s jurisdiction was and how it was organized. With the help of a Power Point presentation, she made a complicated subject easy to understand.

Judge Colbert provided an update on criminal justice reforms initiated under the leadership of Governor Deal, himself a former prosecutor and Superior Court judge. She spoke of sentencing reforms, accountability courts, juvenile justice reforms, and re-entry initiatives. She provided broad statistics regarding the effects of these reforms and also related how these reforms positively impacted the Juvenile Court over which she presided.

Each candidate made a closing statement explaining why she was best qualified to fill the vacant Superior Court judge position.
The election is on May 19. We who live in Chatham County are very fortunate to have two extremely bright and qualified candidates.
