President’s Update May 2019

Hi Hamilton friends,

I’ve been encouraging an optimistic and balanced view in this era of a radically conservative, autocratic president. Bill Broker, our last Hamilton speaker gave me a full shot to renew this optimism to support my effort.

Bill Broker is the managing director of the Savannah Regional Office of Georgia Legal Aid Services. Talk about good work done for the community – outstanding — So much so that I embarrassingly gave him a hug at the end of his presentation. (Read our program chair, Jim Waterman’s excellent description of what Bill Broker said and does).

It’s just that kind of information that we liberal/progressives need in these days of endlessness corruption and malfeasants on the national level. All is not down the drain. Good people are working in the trenches and their work will not be lost.

I’m proud to be a Hamilton. To become educated in what is happening locally, state wise and nationally.

I personally have an intense interest in prison reform and attended the WAGS’ presentation by Kate Chance of the Southern Poverty Law Center who provided an overview of the historical and current status of hate movements in the U.S., especially in Georgia. Once again, for those of you who missed it, organizations like the SPLC are fighting the good fight. They need to know that there are groups like us who support them.

As we live our daily lives, and are the recipients of an avalanche of negative information, working to counterbalance with positive work, people, and events just seems logical to me. The Hamiltons are doing their part.

Robert Pawlicki, President

Upcoming Meeting
Tuesday, May 21st, 3:45 PM
Messiah Lutheran Church

On Tuesday, May 21st, we will be having a social and planning meeting that we urge you to attend. Urge you because we want to hear your thoughts as we move forward, especially into the upcoming Fall and election year. Urge you because this is our social meeting where we all get the opportunity to talk, meet each other and plan for the future.

It’s worth recalling that a few years ago there was no outlet for liberal/progressive men to self-identify, chat with each and discuss what influence we can have to make a difference–however small. Please take advantage of this opportunity now.

Hope to see you there.
