Roger was born and raised in Savannah and is an educator and historian*. In his talk, he will describe Savannah’s Confederate and other historic monuments, and will provide context regarding their erection and discuss their relevance today. He will also provide personal observations regarding the changes in racial attitudes that he has observed during his lifetime.

Roger is a dynamic and interesting presenter. Many of you know him from his work as founder and director of The Learning Center in Savannah.

*Roger was educated at Calvary Day School and Armstrong State College. He taught American Lit and French Language/Culture at Savannah Christian Preparatory School, and went on to serve as the Director of Education at Georgia Historical Society. In 2006 he joined Senior Citizens, Inc. in order to establish the Learning Center, which he has directed since it opened in 2007.

“When people over the age of 55 in Savannah expressed a desire for academically rigorous educational programming to enrich their retirement years, I was pleased to join SCI to establish The Learning Center.
