JUST: Justice Unites Savannah Together – History and Activity
Tuesday January 17, 2023

JUST is a social welfare and advocacy group formed 3 years ago by approximately 20 Savannah religious congregations of different faiths. In the past two years, it has advocated for and won additional resources for Savannah’s Affordable Housing Fund and for alternatives to incarceration for arrestees charged with minor, nonviolent crimes. Rabbi Haas will address JUST’s history and its recent and current activities in seeking fairer justice for the Savannah community.

Rabbi Robert Haas just celebrated his 10-year anniversary as spiritual leader at Congregation Mickve Israel in Savannah, the third oldest active Jewish congregation in the US. A native of McAllen, Texas, Rabbi Haas received a B.S. degree from the University of Texas at Austin and received his rabbinical training from Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem and Los Angeles. After serving as a rabbi in Texas and spending a year in Africa for American Jewish World Service, he joined Mickve Israel. He is married with two children, both born in Savannah.
