Chatham County District Attorney Shalena Cook Jones will present to the combined group of Hamiltons and Abigails in a live/Zoom event. Ms. Jones will talk about the organization and functioning of the office of the District Attorney, especially since taking office in January 2021. She will discuss her priorities and her initiatives and will comment of the legislative process surrounding those initiatives.

Ms Jones will be here at the Messiah Lutheran Church on Tuesday May 17 for this in-person event. The presentation will also be simultaneously available on Zoom for remote participation. For those attending in person, proof of COVID vaccination will be required (either a card or picture on a phone is acceptable), Masks are optional.

As is our customary practice, we are inviting the Skidaway Abigails to this meeting and we thank them for allowing us to use their registration system.

In November 2020, Shalena Cook Jones was elected as District Attorney for the Eastern Judicial Circuit, located in Chatham County. Born and raised in the inner-city of Brooklyn, she received her undergraduate degree from Spelman College in Atlanta and attended University of Georgia School of Law. She started working in the Dekalb County DA’s office in her third year of law school. She worked for two private firms doing insurance defense litigation and served as a federal prosecutor in Texas before coming to work for the Chatham County DA’s office as a Special Victims Prosecutor. She was Managing Partner of an Atlanta-based insurance defense litigation firm and ran her own private practice in Atlanta. She regards prosecuting special victims’ cases to have been her most rewarding assignment prior to her current job of leading the DA office. Ms. Jones is married and has two children.
