Omicron Variant Cases Coming Down

Below is a graph of new COVID cases detected in 31411 up to the week ended Feb 5, 2022 (residents, not visitors). Note the peaks of Delta and Omicron are both higher than original two peaks. There was one additional death last week in 31411, bringing the total to 15 for the pandemic.

Over the last two months, the Omicron variant arrived on Skidaway and resulted in a rapid increase in new cases detected, rising to  just about double (47 new cases the week of 1/22/22) the peak of the Delta variant (26 new cases the week ending 9/4/21).  The numbers have come down for the past 2 weeks and we hope this marks the beginning of the end of the wave of Omicron. Hospitalizations, which lag behind tests, have also apparently peaked, at a level that was only 2/3 of that of Delta, but still well above the peaks of the prior two waves.

Our Community Transmission Index is still in the very high range, so continued caution is still important! Please continue to be careful over the the next several weeks!!

Other metrics: One of the best measure of the infections in our area is the current number of hospitalizations. These charts are updated daily and give a good idea of how well the pandemic is being contained. Scroll to the bottom chart to see the current hospitalizations in Savannah – St Josephs, Candler, and Memorial – they are nearly, if not already out of ICU beds for new patients.
