Similar to the electoral college, the filibuster remains one of the most controversial and misunderstood elements of American politics. Dr. Bruce Mallard, Assistant Professor of political science and public affairs at Savannah State University, brings clarity to filibuster discussions in his October 20th (4pm) Zoom presentation to the Skidaway Hamiltons. Join us as he examines the history, evolution, procedural requirements, and controversies surrounding this important Senatorial decision-making devise:
• Why does it exist?
• How does it relate to the American issue of majority rule?
• What useful purpose(s) does it serve?
• Should it be abolished or reinvented?
• What compelling reasons justify its continuing use?
Dr. Mallard will address these and other important questions that affect the future of America’s deliberative democracy.
The Skidaway Hamiltons is a nonpartisan progressive men’s organization. This meeting (October 20th, 4pm) is open to all members and the Skidaway Abigails (online registration required Click Here to Register).
